LIFE AS A PRINCESS

by Sarah Richard
(Pearl, MS)

Life as a princess
Would be very neat...
I could wear a pretty gold dress
And shiny slippers on my feet.

Life as a princess
Would be really grand...
I could wear a cool tiara
And wave a wand with my hand.

Life as a princess
Would be a delight...
I could take the king's money
And buy everything in sight.

Life as a princess
Would be so nice...
But I cannot have it all
Without paying a price.

Life as a princess
Would keep me busy all day...
I would have a royal life
But not a lot of time to play.

Life as a princess
Might be a little hard…
I cannot be alone
Not even to play in my yard.

Life as a princess
Would require some thought...
I must always act proper
Because my picture is sought.

Life as a princess
Would not be a retreat…
There are lots of things to do
And so many people to meet.

Life as a princess
Would be a wild ride...
But the kingdom has laws
And I have to abide.

Life as a princess
Still means bedtime at eight…
School in the morning
And no getting up late.

Life as a princess
Means when dinner is ready…
I must eat all my vegetables
While holding my fork steady.

Life as a princess
Means no time for fun...
I have to sit on my throne
When all I want to do is run.

Life as a princess
Is not quite a dream come true…
The queen keeps me busy.
There’s always things to do.

Life as a princess
Is starting to stink…
I am tired of this gold dress.
I wish it was pink!

Life as a princess
Makes me cry, “Boo-hoos.”
I would trade in these slippers
For a pair of tennis shoes.

You see, life as a princess
Is not what I really want to be...
Because what is that life
Without my own family?

I really like that this flight of fancy lands with both sneakers on the ground.
